Mainland High School

  • Mainland High School

Skanska provided pre-construction and construction management services for this unique, state-of-the-art high school for a student population of 2,100. This was a five phase project that required continuous work on an occupied campus.

Constructing the project

Throughout construction, school continued to be in session with students and staff a constant presence on the property. 34 relocatable classrooms were installed to accomomdate the students while the new school was being constructed. The old school was demolished and new sports fields were installed. During construction the Jessica Lunsford Act was implemented, creating a new level of screening requirements on an active work force. This was the first time "Smart Classrooms" were implemented. The school has full labs with fume hoods. The site is at the intersection of two main roads and in close proximity to the Daytona Speedway which holds six major events each year. The closure of a US Highway was required to add lanes to accomodate access to the school. This had to be done without disruption to the community.
