In 2012, Skanska was awarded a $220 million contract to complete Phase 1 of the Farley Building’s Moynihan Train Hall project, expanding the West End Concourse at Penn Station to link with the historic James A. Farley Post Office Building. The concourse was expanded in both length and width, improving passenger circulation and capacity for nine of the station’s 12 train platforms. To bring the station into compliance with ADA regulations, seven elevators and one escalator were also added. Skanska constructed two new street-level entrances, which included force protection new public plazas marking pedestrian access. Skanska surveyed the under-platform utilities and performed foundation work and selective demolition. We were responsible for all work on the station’s electrical system, including switchgear replacement. Before completion in August 2016, our crews cleaned and performed historic restorations to the original façade.
