In 2015, we began work to build The Scalpel at 52 Lime Street in the City of London. Three years later it was handed over to our customer ready for occupation.
Skanska’s multi-disciplinary teams constructed and completed the piled foundations, mechanical and electrical engineering services, suspended ceilings, and IT, data and security works for this prestigious 35-storey commercial-office building.
As well as constructing the shell and core base build, our team completed a category B fit out on behalf of our customer across four of the floors to form their new European headquarters.
Sharpening London’s skyline
The Scalpel’s unique design features an inclined northern façade which has a diagonal fold line running from top to bottom, giving the building its distinctive look and name. Neighbouring the Gherkin, another Skanska-built landmark project, and close to the historical Leadenhall Market, the Scalpel adds dynamism to what is already one of the most recognised city skylines in the world.
The Scalpel has spectacular views across London and provides approximately 624,000 sq ft of office accommodation over 35 office floors, including shops, bars and restaurants.
The 190m tower was designed by multi-award-winning architects Kohn Pedersen Fox as a European headquarters for US insurer W.R. Berkley.
