Construction is a high-risk activity. For this reason one of our most important social responsibilities is that everyone who works for Skanska has conditions ensured for the safe performance of their work.
In the context of the integrated management system, the Skanska group has put in place and certified a system of safety and occupational health according to the specification OHSAS 18001. In the context of the system the procedure on the site and checking of documents is supervised by health and safety specialists who also monitor the processes implemented by subcontractors with an emphasis on adherence to all the rules for safety and occupational health.
In the years 2006 and 2007 all our workers in the construction professions underwent a training programme called They are Waiting for you at Home, which significantly improved the understanding of employees in the area of safety and occupational health.
Every year Skanska holds a Safety Week, which forces us to think about this important issue. We regularly use the safety weeks for more thorough training of employees and for improving controls and feedback in the area of safety and occupational health.
